Belgaum 26: The implementation of Kannada language in Public places and schools and colleges had been very poor in border areas like Khanapur, Nippani and Chikkodi, Kannada Development Authority Chairman Siddalingaiah said here today.

Addressing the media persons on his visit to the Belgaum district bordering Maharashtra, he said that he had instructed district administration to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report so that the employment opportunities for Kannada speaking people would improve in the border district.

He also said that he had instructed the district officials to monitor the display of Kannada on signboards prominently in shops, petrol bunks and the number plates of all government vehicles should be in Kannada. He ordered to cancel the licenses of the shops which did not display Kannada signboards.

He said every department should submit monthly development report to the KDA and action would be taken against those who failed to do so. Showcause notice would be issued to the officials of Belgaum who failed in meeting the targets in Kannada implementation, he said.

He ordered district administration to remove the plaques in some villages of Belgaum district, which claimed that they were part of Maharashtra state even though they are in Karnataka. "The officials should take action against those gram panchayats which pass such resolutions in Marathi," he said.
