JD(U) MLA laments detention, lambasts own party

Bagaha, May 26 (UNI) JD(U) MLA Purnamasi Ram today lambasted Nitish government for alleged act of showing disrespect to peoples' representatives by treating them as ordinary criminals.

'' Nitish government has lost control over the officers who are out to insult peoples' representatives on flimsy grounds,''he told UNI.

The JD(U) MLA, detained at a police station here since last night for alleged violation of model code of conduct for election, expressed his resentment over the police action and said that he should have been kept interned at his residence instead of taking into a police custody if there were chances of the election process being influenced due to his presence in the area.

''Forcing an MLA to spend night at a police station on such flimsy ground was an insult to the people who sent him to the Assembly by exercising their franchise,'' a fuming Mr Ram said.

Earlier, Mr Ram was taken into custody by local police for alleged violation of model code of conduct during campaigning in favour of a particular candidate contesting the municipality election, polling for which was going on today.
