Jakhar calls for checking population growth

Karnal, May 26 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jhakhar today said that the growing population control in India was the biggest challenge and its control could solve a number of problems.

Interacting with the newsmen here today he observed that if countries like Malasia, Indonesia, Egypt and China could check their population growth, so could India.

To reduce burden on the land, agro-based industries should be given impetus on the pattern of most of the European countries, he said. He said some sort of stake of farmers should be there in SEZs.

Denying that he was a presidential candidate, he said he had never asked anything for himself but hastened to add that a peasant as president would be a welcome change.

Answering a query on Shivraj Singh Chohan led BJP government in Madhya Pradesh he said his stance was totally impartial befitting a governor. He said he always inspired his CM to formulate programmes for the welfare of the state.

He was in the town to attend a meeting of the Bharat Krishak Samaj.
