Jammu, May 26 (UNI) Troops of army today foiled another infiltration bid at Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning, official sources said here.

One soldier was killed and another injured during a fierce encounter between troops and a group of militants at around 0900 hrs, the sources said.

The deceased was identified as Jawan Narender Gurang of Gorkha Regiment while Bhanu Bhugat was admitted to a nearby army hospital, they said.

A group of militants who made an attempt to infiltrate to this side of the LoC from Krishna Ghati, managed to escape after the incident, the sources informed.

Army has launched a combing operation in the area to dispel the apprehensions of the presence of any militant in the area, they added.

''The alert troops succeeded in foiling the infiltration bid by forcing the militants to retreat. The militants took advantage of dense forests,'' an army official said.

The initial reports about the violation of cease fire were, however, refuted by the army who said the exchange of firing was between the troops and a group of militants who were trying to enter Indian side.

''There was no report of cease fire violation and it was purely an infiltration bid which was foiled by the army,'' the officer further said.

Troops had foiled a similar infiltration bid by militants at Chakla area of Sunderbani near LoC by forcing them back to other side. However, the fleeing militants left behind six AK-47 rifles and ammunition.
