Infiltration bid foiled at LoC, a jawan killed, another injured
Jammu, May 26 (UNI) Troops of army today foiled another infiltration bid at Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning, official sources said here.
A group of militants who made an attempt to infiltrate to this side of the LoC from Krishna Ghati escaped and fled after killing an army jawan and injuring another at about 0900 hrs, sources said.
Army has launched a combing operation to dispel the apprehensions of the presence of any militant in the area, sources said adding alert troops after noticing suspicious movement opened fire which led to the encounter.
''The alert troops succeeded in foiling the infiltration bid by forcing the militants to retreat. The militants took advantage of dense forests,'' an army official said.
The initial reports about the violation of ceasefire were, however refuted by the army who said the exchange of firing was between the troops and a group of militants who were trying to enter to this side.
''There was no report of ceasefire violation and it was purely an infiltration bid which was foiled by the army,'' an army officer further said.
Troops had foiled a similar infiltration bid by militants at the Chakla area of Sunderbani near LoC by forcing them back to other side. However the fleeing militants left behind 6 AK-47 rifles and ammunition.
