IJA protests the move to close down daily
Kolkata, May 26 (UNI) Expressing concern at the reported move to close down 'Basumati', the state-owned Bengali vernacular daily, the Indian Journalists' Association (IJA) today said the decision would put the employees in distress.
''The reported decision of the West Bengal government to close down the heritage Bengali newspaper has not only surprised the journalists, but it has hit hard the Basumati employees,'' IJA President Mrinal Kanti Biswas said in a statement.
He said the Government's move came at a time when the employees were awaiting a decision for reopening of the newspaper which remained closed for the past few years.
