I will fight for women empowerment: Kanimozhi

Chennai, May 26 (UNI) Ms Kanimozhi, the poetess daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, nominated by the party to the Rajya Sabha, tonight said she would fight for women empowerment.

Reacting to her nomination to seek election to the Rajya Sabha in the June 15 biennial election from the state Assembly, Ms Kanimozhi told UNI that she would fight for issues concerning women and secure 33 per cent reservation for women in the Parliament and Legislatures.

''I am overwhelmed by the confidence reposed on me by the party and its leadership. I will try to do my best and fulfill the aspirations of the party,'' she said.

''Certainly not, I am happy about this'', she said when asked whether she was upset that the DMK leader and her father M Karunanidhi had ruled out a berth for her in the Union Cabinet.

''It's not that I don't want to take up responsibility, but I feel it is too early,'' she said.
