Fortis, Trehan work out peace deal

New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) Burying the hatchet, Fortis-owned Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre Limited (EHIRC) and doctor Naresh Trehan announced an out-of-court settlement today with the reinstatement of the cardiologist as the hospital Executive Director.

In a statement, Fortis Management, led by Shivinder Mohan Singh, and Dr Trehan regretted the ''allegations'' and ''accusations'' which were the result of a ''misunderstanding''.

''The last few days saw a disturbed situation caused due to some misunderstanding. These misunderstanding have now been resolved. Consequently Trehan will continue his role as the Executive Director," it added.

On May 18, the hospital management, under instructions from Fortis Healthcare, which owns 90 per cent of stake in EHIRC, removed Dr Trehan, who controls the remaining 10 per cent stake, and his support staff citing "conflict of interest".

After that followed a series of allegations and counter allegations and both the parties even took legal recourse.

Reinstating the eminent cardiologist, the management recognised Dr Trehan's contribution.

''The extremely valuable contribution made by the Executive Director and Founder Dr Naresh Trehan is recognised,'' said the EHIRC statement.

Mr Singh, who took charge of EHIRC, relinquished the new position as part of new the settlement and would continue as the Managing Director of EHIRC, the statement said.

The statement said management would like to ensure a healthy and smooth work environment where the doctor, nurses and paramedical staff will enjoy a good work environment and patients would continue to receive the best care.

''The management looks forward to a bright future for the institute led by its Managing Director Shivinder Mohan Singh,'' it added.
