Dehra Dun, May 26: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri today said financial discipline that was implemented since he came to power would accrue benefits to the state to the tune of Rs 2.88 crore per year.

Maj Gen Khanduri, while addressing the media at 'Meet the Press' programme held at Uttarakhand Press club, maintained that the financial curtailment implemented on the expenditure on the people with 'Lal Battis' (red beacons) would reap in benefit of about Rs 17 crore in five years and curtailments made in expenditures made on government advocates would yield dividends of Rs. 3.50 crore in five years.

He said the expenditure bore by the government in providing gunners to VIPs was Rs 3.65 crore. ''This would come down to just Rs 1.85 crore,'' he said.

Notably, Maj Gen Khanduri looking into the debt that the state was under and its liability to pay Rs 1,000 crore per year as an interest, had put the screws on financial expenditures since he came to power.

To begin with, he had brought down number of cars in his fleet from existing 7 to 2, truncating the number of gunners provided to the 'non-deserving' people and decreasing the number of government advocates.
