CPI condemns extension of Suu Kyi's detention by Myanmar Govt

New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) The CPI today strongly condemned the extension of Nobel Place Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi's detention by the Myanmar's military junta.

The party, in a release issued here, said the extension of Suu Kyi's house arrest by another year was ''most unfortunate and condemnable''.

''For more than a decade she has been kept under detention and Myanmar's people have been denied democratic rule,'' the party said.

The party urged the UPA government at the Centre to take up this matter with Myanmar and make a strong plea for revoking the detention order and for restoration of democracy in the country.
