CM's overnight stay changes village's fortunes overnight
Chamarajanagara, Karnataka, May 26 (UNI) Badagalmore, a remote village in this most backward district of Karnataka, has seen upgradation of infrastructure within a short span of time, thanks to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's overnight stay in the village tomorrow.
Most of the residents of the village, with 156 households, were below the poverty line. A majority of them earn a living by weaving mats and ropes, while others were agriculturists and coolies.
The village lacked even the basic amenities such as road, street lights, health centre and drinking water. However, their fortunes have brightened overnight, with the VVIP visit. All the thatched huts in the village have been replaced with concrete houses(10 ft X 20 ft) at a cost of Rs 25,000. The lower primary school building, which was badly in need of repair, had been demolished and a new building was being constructed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Work on drains, tar roads and community toilets have been completed.
Besides, electricity had been provided to all the houses under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme.
Mr Kumaraswamy would be the first Chief Minister to visit the 'jinxed' Chamarajanagar town in 17 years after Mr Veerendra Patil, who lost the post following the visit, as popular belief had it that any Chief Minister visiting the town would lose the post.
Mr Kumaraswamy would also visit the historic Chamarajeshwara temple and a special homam would be performed not only to bring prosperity to the Chief Minister, but also to ward off all evil forces that have jinxed the town.
