Centre to provide assistance to J

Srinagar, May 26 (UNI) The Centre will provide every possible financial assistance to Jammu and Kashmir government for conservation and protection of all water bodies in the state.

Union Minister for Water Resources Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz assured the state government of every assistance for conservation, protection of all water bodies in the state particularly river Jhelum, Chinab and Tavi. He described these rivers as people's heritage.

He described river Jhelum as symbol of civilisation adding that its protection and conservation is the need of the hour.

Mr Soz was speaking at a function organised by Irrigation and Flood Control Department on the prestigious river Jhelum project.

The department also screened a documentary film on river Jhelum. The film showed footage on works under execution on embankment of the river.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad underscored the importance of restoration of pristine, grandeur and glory of the river.

He said its beautification, cleanliness and consolidation of banks demand focused attention.
