Bomb found in Brahmaputra mail
Kokrajhar, May 26 (UNI) Passengers of the Tinsukia-bound Up Brahmaputra Mail had a providential escape today when security forces recovered a powerful bomb from the train at Kokrajhar in lower Asom.
Official sources said the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel found a remote control device, weighing about 8 kg, from a bag at the corridor of two compartments of the train when it was standing at the Kokrajhar railway station at around 1215 hours.
Bomb experts of the Asom Police and Army rushed to the spot and defused the bomb.
Train services were affected and trains were controlled at various stations for security checking.
While the police is yet to ascertain the militant outfit behind the incident, the initial suspect is the ULFA which has threatened to trigger a series of attacks in the next 72 hours.
Barely two hours before the incident, a powerful bomb was triggered by the ULFA at Athgaon in Guwahati, killing at least seven persons and injuring 17.
