Ayurveda to go global
Kolkata, May 26 (UNI) 'The key to blissful living in times of stress can be Ayurveda.' This was the crux of a seminar organised by the Asiatic Society here today.
''With growing world wide enthusiasm on Ayurvedic studies, the Asiatic Society is interested in promoting valuable studies in the national and international field,'' Member of Asiatic Society Brahmananda Gupta said while speaking at the seminar.
Asserting that Ayurveda opened up new vistas for research, Mr Gupta said modern day people were riddled with stress, depression and several terminal diseases. ''The holistic lifestyle recommended by the Ayurvedic texts can bring relief to the suffering humanity,'' he said.
Addressing Ayurveda as 'Meta Language', Mr Gupta claimed that the philosophical approach of Ayurveda had given the language an edge above others in terms that in the secret chambers of text and their commentaries, lie hidden valuable knowledge about preventive therapy which was promoted by the ancient teachers of Ayurveda.
Organisations like the World Health Organisation(WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund(UNICEF) have also shown interest in plants that can be used to treat childhood diarrhoea. ''The organisations are focussing on fresh study and review of Ayurvedic texts, by way of commentaries,'' Mr Gupta said.
