AP launches 'Sphurthi' programme for Polytechnic students
Hyderabad, May 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Technical Education Minister R Chenga Reddy today said the Government has launched 'Sphurthi' programme, a project conceived for the integrated development of polytechnic students from this year in the state.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Reddy said the programme's objective was to improve the communication skills among students, provide placement, teaching-learning resources and e-library facility in all Government Poly-technic colleges.
Stating that the Government has sanctioned Rs five crore to implement the programme this year, the Minister said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had approved to fill up the vacancies in the Government Poly-technic colleges on regular basis.
Action would be taken against private engineering colleges, which were collecting money from the students, violating norms prescribed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Mr Reddy said, adding the Government had received more than 30 applications for the establishment of private engineering colleges during this year.
The Government had sanctioned 20 acres of land to the US-based Georgia Tech University to set up its branch in Ranga Reddy district and 70 acres of land had been allotted to it in Visakhapatnam. An MoU with the University would be signed on June five in this regard, the Minister added.
