3 charred to death after jeep collides with tipper

Nagpur, May 26 (UNI) Three persons were charred to death while three others sustained burn injures when their vehicle caught fire after hitting a tipper in a rural area of this district today.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the jeep slammed into a tipper coming from the opposite direction at village Dhamna near here in the wee hours.

The impact of the collision broke the fuel pipe of the jeep and the sparks set the diesel on fire, a police statement said. The fire engulfed the jeep, charring three of the occupants to death on the spot, it said. One of the victims has been identified as Surendra Bhagwat Saiwan (19), a resident of village Nimbi in Morshi Tehsil of neighbouring Amravati district, while the other two have not been identified yet, the police said.

Three other occupants, who jumped out of the vehicle, sustained burns and have been admitted to a hospital, the statement said. The injured were identified as Suresh Parmanand Makija (40) of Nimbi who sustained 70 per cent burns and was undergoing treatment in Nagpur, Dinesh Junghare and Dnyaneshwar Chincholkar, also from the same village, sustained 10 per cent burns and were being treated in Amravati.

The jeep was completely gutted in the mishap, while the tipper was damaged partially. Traffic on the road was held up for two hours because of the mishap.

The police have registered an offence against the drivers of both the vehicles and have arrested Sailesh Ramratan Singh (23), a resident of Bihar, who was at the wheel of the tipper when the mishap occurred.
