Workers go on rampage at Reliance thermal plant
Jagadhri, May 25 (UNI) Workers employed at the 1000-MW Yamunanagar Thermal Power project went on the rampage damaging imported control panels and vehicles at the site of the plant, in Ratanpura village last night, police today said.
The workers were protesting the death of a co-worker, who was crushed under the wheels of a dumper (truck) while at work last night. The deceased identified as Ghasita Ram (55) was a resident of Ratanpura.
Police sources said here today the agitated crowd damaged five Chinese made control panels of the plant and set fire to dumpers.
Besides the crowd also damaged other vehicles parked at the site of the plant.
The thermal plant is a joint venture of the Haryana Government and Reliance Energy and its first unit is scheduled to be commissioned in November this year. Sources at the plant said the commissioning of the first unit was likely to be delayed as the damaged panels have to be replaced.
Sources put the estimated loss at around Rs 5 crore. After a ten hour halt, work at the plant commenced this morning.
