Witnesses identify weapon

Mumbai, May 25 (UNI) Suresh Amre, police sub-inspector and an arms expert attached with the Worli police, today identified the pistol allegedly used by Pravin Mahajan to kill his elder brother Pramod Mahajan.

During his cross-examination by special public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam, Amre identified the pistol and demonstrated before the court how the pistol can be used and the possible reasons for a bullet to get stuck within its chamber.

Earlier, during the cross-examination by defence counsel Harshad Ponda, Sudakar Shetty, a panch witness, contradicted his own statement regarding the happenings at the Worli police station after Pravin Mahajan's surrender last year.

However, Shetty identified the pistol and the clothes worn by Pravin Mahajan at the time of his surrender.

On April 22 last year, Pravin Mahajan allegedly shot his elder brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan at his residence in Worli.

After the attack, Pravin Mahajan surrendered before the Worli police.

Pramod Mahajan died after a 13-day battle for his life at the Hinduja Hospital on May 3 last year.
