Villagers block road demanding water

Puducherry,May 25(UNI)The villagers of Karuvadikuppam near here put up a road blockade in front of a schooltoday to protest against the drinking water scarcity being experienced in the village.

Officials of the territorial administration along with police held talks with the agitators and assured them to take action immedietely to provide drinking water, following which they called off the agitation.

Traffic was affected for about one and a half hours.

PMK MP Prof.Dhanaraj, who was passing by that way got down from his vehicle and assured the villagers that he would take up the matter with the authorities.

Meanwhile, volunteers of the All India Central Council for Trade Unions held a demonstration in front of the office of the Labour Commissioner to protest the lock-out of a private industry here.
