Hyderabad: Tight security at Mecca Masjid

Hyderabad, May 25: The city police today conducted searches at the Mecca Masjid, where a powerful bomb blast killed nine people on May 18, to prevent any untoward incident during the Friday prayers this afternoon.

Police said bomb squads conducted searches in the mosque and installed six metal detectors at the entrance and inside the mosque.

As many as 21 closed circuit TVs were also installed.

Additional forces, including RAF and APSP personnel, were deployed around the mosque, located beside the world famous Charminar.

Intelligence officials were also keeping an eye on those entering the mosque during the prayers.

Nine people were killed and about 50 others injured in the blast in the mosque during Friday prayers on May 18. Following the blast, an unruly mob pelted stones at police personnel outside the mosque.

To bring the situation under control, police opened fire, killing five people.
