SUCI to intensify movement on Nandigram

Kolkata, May 25 (UNI) Squarely blaming both the CPI (M) and the Trinamool Congress for playing with the Nandigram issue for electoral gains, the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today said the party would strengthen its movement demanding trial for the March 14 ''mass killing''.

Opposing any truce across the table, SUCI state Secretary Provas Ghosh said no all-party meeting would ensure peace in strife-torn Nandigram unless the Left Front Government admitted that a ''mass killing'' really took place in the area.

''The Trinamool Congress is seeking to cash in on the emotion of the people of Nandigram while the CPI(M) was posing as a peace initiator--both aiming at the coming Panchayat elections,'' he said.

Mr Ghosh alleged that the Trinamool Congress participated in yesterday's failed all-party meeting knowing well that the CPI (M) would not admit the crime.

He also alleged that the purpose of the CPI(M) in pursuing with the peace move was to ensure that police took over Nandigram, which virtually remained a ''free zone'' for more than four months and break the people's movement.

''We shall intensify the movement in Nandigram and make the CPI(M) to bow down to bring back peace in the area,'' he said.

The SUCI had boycotted yesterday's meeting demanding that the Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee, a platofrm of different opposition parties, spearheading the anti land acquisition movement be called and the Left Front Government ensure punishment of those guilty for the ''mass killing and rape''.
