SKorea: Hanjin wins $2.2 bln shipbuilding orders

Seoul, May 25: South Korea's Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. has won shipbuilding orders worth a total of $2.2 billion in May from companies in Germany, France, Turkey and India, Hanjin said on Friday.

Hanjin said in a statement that it signed a contract this week to build eight container ships for Germany's NSC for $1.27 billion.

The shipbuilder also agreed to build two bulk ships for India's Adani and another one for Turkey's Eregli, for a total of $240 million. Earlier in May, it signed a $690 million contract with French shipping firm CMA CGM for 10 container ships, Hanjin said.

Those ships would be built in its shipyard in the Philippines.

Hanjin shares rose 1.11 percent to 54,500 won by 0103 GMT, against a 0.78 percent drop in the wider market.
