Renewable Energy Park in Gangtok to start operation by Oct
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The much awaited Renewable Energy Park at Bhanjakhri Water Falls in Gangtok, Sikkim is expected to start operation by October this year.
Civil works for various renewable energy systems and landscape development had been started at the park, which had got Rs one crore as grant from the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,an official statement said here today.
Advisor to the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, N P Singh, held discussions with Director of Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency, K S Tobegy, to finalise the details of the project along with the proposals for 2007-08.
Public awareness activities such as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas, district advisory committee functions, new renewable energy sources exhibitions and solar energy and small hydro power programmes were proposed to be organised under the project.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had been implementing comprehensive programmes for the development and utilisation of various renewable energy sources in the country.
As a result of this, a number of technologies and devices had been developed and were commercially available. These included bio-gas plants, improved wood stoves, solar water heaters, solar cookers, solar lanterns, street lights, ponds and wind generators.
Energy technologies such as hydrogen, fuel cells and bio-fuels were also being actively developed.
