Mumbai, May 25 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today directed banks to allow business process outsourcing units (BPOs) in India to make remittances towards the cost of equipment that they import to instal at their overseas sites for setting up international call centres (ICCs).

The central bank directive has come as a relief to BPOs, who were unable to produce evidence of import requiring specific permission from the RBI.

However, the apex bank has made it manadatory to BPOs to get the necessary approval from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and other authorities concerned before making the bid.
