Guwahati, May 25 (UNI) Demanding immediate peace talks with the Nationalist Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), thousands of Bodo students joined a mass rally organized by the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) today.

Over 20,000 rallyists poured in at the Sonaram Field here, paralysing the capital city.

Besides demanding positive steps from the government in bringing the militant outfit to the negotiation table, the rallyists also protested the dereservation of the Kokrajhar constituency by the delimitation commission.

ABSU president Rwngwra Narzary said the student body would intensify its agitation if peace talks with the NDFB were not initiated soon.

He said efforts are on for a patch up between the NDFB and the former Bodoland Liberation Tigers (BLT), which have currently locked horns with the latter alleging that the militant outfit was carrying out extortions and killings despite being on truce.

Significantly, the former BLT cadres have called a 100-hour road-cum-rail blockade in western Asom protesting the reported killing of its members by the NDFB.

Contrary to the ABSU demand, the former BLT has strongly advocated that the ceasefire with the NDFB be quashed as it was ''regrouping and reorganizing taking its advantage''.
