Prof's murder: Hearing postponed

Ujjain, MP, May 25 (UNI) The hearing in the Professor H S Sabharwal murder case could not take place today as the present judge was on leave and the new judge had not assumed charge.

On May 10, the hearing in the case was postponed as District Sessions Judge A K Sharma, who was hearing the case, had taken leave after he was transferred as the Assistant Registrar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur.

Judge Sharma was hearing the case since a chargesheet in the case was filed. So far, 48 witnesses have recorded their statements.

The next date of hearing has been fixed as June 22.

Professor Sabharwal died when he was attacked by students irked over the postponement of student unions elections on August 26.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which was entrusted with inquiry into the matter, had arrested six ABVP workers, including the then state ABVP President Shashi Ranjan Akela. The accused are at present in judicial custody in central Bhairavgarh jail.
