Police resort to lathi charge on mob at Mecca Masjid
Hyderabad, May 25 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathi charge on a mob at the historical Mecca Masjid, where a bomb blast killed nine people on May 18, when they pelted stones at the police during a procession after the Friday prayers.
Police said a group of people took out a procession from the mosque to the main road after the Friday prayers. Trouble started when some of the processionists pelted stones at the police and shops, despite tight security provided in the sensitive old city where the mosque is located.
To prevent escalation of the situation, the security forces resorted to lathi charge on the mob and dispersed them immediately.
Police said there was no report of injuries in the stone pelting and lathi charge. The situation was under control and the deployed security forces were alerted to prevent any untoward incident.
