Police arrest fake doctor

Vijayawada, May 25 (UNI) The city police arrested a quack on charge of stealing gold chains from patients in a hospital and three nursing homes here.

Addressing a press conference today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) U V S Raju said one Goru Murali of Vijayawada sneaked into the nursing homes and a maternity hospital posing as a reputed doctor.

Mr Raju said Goru used to look out for aged women patients admitted to there. He would enter their wards sporting s stethoscope and tell the patients that he had come to check their blood-pressure.

He would ask the patients to remove their gold chain and'tali' and keep them on the table. After the gullible patients obeyed him, he would keep them in his pocket while pretending as though he was verifying their blood-pressure. He would later escape from the spot.

On a tip-off, the police arrested him and recovered four gold 'talis' weighing 19 sovereigns from him on May 23, Mr Raju added.
