Nikkei down 1 pc as Sony, exporters fall on yen
Tokyo, May 25: The Nikkei share average fell 0.95 percent on Friday as exporters such as Sony Corp. fell after the yen jumped against the dollar and euro after data showed Japan's core consumer prices fell at a slower pace in April as expected.
Japanese core consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in April from a year earlier, government data showed before the open, matching economists' consensus forecast.
The Nikkei was down 167.70 points at 17,529.27 as of 0001 GMT.
The broader TOPIX index lost 0.95 percent to 1,721.62.
