Mirwaiz threatens agitation over Army's plan for Kashmir mosques
Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today termed as ''direct interference in religious affairs'' the Army's plan to renovate and give a facelift to mosques and shrines in Jammu and Kashmir.
He threatened to launch a statewide agitation if the Army went ahead with its plan.
''Renovation of mosques and shrines is a direct interference by the Army in our religious matters,'' the Mirwaiz told a Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid here.
He threatened to launch statewide agitation, if the armed forces did not shelve off the plan immediately.
''We will not tolerate it,'' the Mirwaiz said.
Several top religious leaders have already expressed their strong opposition to the Army plan.
