JK: Rs 16 cr budgetary support to its SRTC

Srinagar, May 25: To give new shape to the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), Jammu and Kashmir government would provide Rs 16 crore budgetary support to it during the current financial year.

Speaking at a senior officers meeting here today, Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad said the corporation has provided transport facilities to more than 81 lakh passengers by operating 441 buses across the state during last year.

He said government has taken several steps to improve the functioning and strengthening the infrastructure of the SRTC during recent months, saying that measures are afoot to make the corporation people friendly and result oriented.

The Minister emphasized the need for purchasing spare parts from the reputed agencies at national level after fulfilling all the codal formalities, adding that Rs 5.37 crore were utilized by the corporation during last year for purchase of spare parts like tyres and tubes. batteries and other material.

He directed for operating SRTC mini bus services from Lal Chowk to leading hospitals of the Srinagar city to facilitate the ailing persons besides restoring the double decker bus service from Lal Chowk to Mughal gardens including Nishat and Shalimar to facilitate the tourists.

He also directed for operating SRTC Bus service from Srinagar to Behibagh and Bugam, Kulgam to meet the long pending demand of the people of these areas.

Mr Yaseen stressed the concerned authorities to expedite the process for recovering Rs 8.76 crore pending with Food Corporation of India.
