Govt to modify Textile Upgradation Funding Scheme
Mumbai, May 25: The Government of India is planning to modify the Textile Upgradation funding Scheme (TUFS) to provide additional benifit of 10 per cent capital subsidy in line with specified processing machinery.
While delivering the keynote address at a workshop 'Medical Textiles 2007' organized by FICCI, in association with SASMIRA here, Textile Commissioner J N Singh today announced that the government was contemplating setting up six Centers of Excellence for major segments of technical textiles at Textile Research Associations (TRAs) / IITs etc, with one Centre exclusively for medical textiles.
He made it clear that use of non-woven disposable healthcare items will be encouraged in all government hospitals.
Mr Singh emphasised the need for maintaining quality standards in technical textiles.
He expressed confidence that the production and consumption of technical textiles and medical textiles in India would increase rapidly in view of the buoyancy in the economy and the government initiatives. He expects the medical textile market size to grow to Rs 2,256 crore by 2011 from Rs 1,260 crore in 2006-07.
