Gold turnover at Rs 638 cr at MCX COMDEX

Mumbai, May 25 (UNI) The turnover on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) of India today in the first session upto 1700 hrs was Rs 3111.2 crore, up 0.9 per cent from Rs 3083.3 crore during the same period of the previous day. Total number of trades was 56,401.

MCX Comdex, the composite index of metal, energy and agri indices, gained by 16.7 points at 2118.94 points. MCX Metal Index advanced by 16.2 points to 2521. 2 points, MCX Energy Index was up by 25.7 points to 2152.46 points and MCX Agri Index ended up at 1671.20 points, up 3.05 points, a MCX release said.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 936.89 crore with gold accounting for Rs 638.27 crore and silver for Rs 298.62 crore. Gold contract volumes were 7,356 kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, gained between Rs five and Rs 15 with the June contract up a tad 0.08 per cent at Rs 8,649 per 10 gms. Silver contracts, including silver mini, traded between Rs 16 and Rs 43 per kg up with the July contract up 0.12 per cent at Rs 17,834 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 921.4 crore with volume of 31,658,000 kg and OI of 14,571,000 kg. Copper contracts gained between Rs 2.85 and Rs 3.65 per kg with the June contract up by 1.26 at Rs 292.70 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 436.53 crore with volume of 29,775 tonnes and OI of 28,355 tonnes. The May contract ended steady at Rs 146.80 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 212.03 crore with volume of 1,082,000 kg and OI of 637,000 kg. Nickel for May delivery was up by 1.44 per cent at Rs 1,981.2 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 15.50 crore with volume of 1,368 tonnes and OI 6,920 tonnes. Aluminium May 7 contract was up by 0.54 per cent at Rs 112.25 per kg.

In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 247.50 crore with volume of 795,000 barrels and OI of 1,109,400 barrels. Crude oil June contract was up by 0.73 per cent at Rs 2,638 per barrel.

Natural gas turnover of all contracts was Rs 14.16 crore with volume of 431,000 mmBTU and OI of 1,220,500 mmBTU. Natural gas for June delivery was up by 0.19 per cent at Rs 320.6 per mmBTU.

Among agri commodities, guarseed contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 26.50 crore with volume of 14,870 tonnes and OI of 6,580 tonnes.

Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 25.2 crore with volume of 441 tonnes and OI of 1,325 tonnes.

Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 26.51 crore, volume of 12,150 tonnes and OI of 3,360 tonnes. The June contract was down 0.5 per cent at Rs 2,128 per quintal while July contract receded by 0.5 per cent to end at Rs 2,184 per quintal.

Refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 224.92 crore with volume of 46,750 tonnes and OI of 40,250 tonnes.

Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 7.12 crore with volume of 11,850 tonnes and OI of 85,440 tonnes.

Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 7.12 crore with volume of 174 tonnes and OI of 626 tonnes.

Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 1.80 crore, volume of 247 tonnes and OI of 643 tonnes, the release added.
