Ex-BLT blockade continues to hit traffic in western Asom

Guwahati, May 25 (UNI) The road communication in western Asom was disrupted for the second day today due to the ongoing 100-hour road-cum-rail blockade called by the Ex-BLT cadres.

The Ex-BLT (Bodo Liberation Tigers) cadres, under the banner of Ex BLT Welfare Society, had launched a 100-hour road-cum-rail blockade in western Asom from yesterday, protesting against the killings and attacks by militants of Nationalist Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).

Though small vehicles plied, the long-distance passenger buses and trucks kept off the roads.

Trucks, which were stranded at Srirampur at the entrance of Asom and Guwahati yesterday, resumed movement later in the evening but again kept off the road today.

No untoward incident has so far been reported during the period.

Train services, which were severely hit yesterday, were not disrupted today, a Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson informed.

He said the picketers had been spotted near the train tracks but have made no attempts to disrupt the movements of the trains till now.

As many as 16 long distance trains were controlled in various stations yesterday, but the services resumed in the evening.

The Ex-BLT cadres had also staged a protest at Dispur yesterday, demanding that the ceasefire agreement with the NDFB be quashed.
