EC announces Madurai West byelection schedule

New Delhi, May 25: The byelection to the Madurai West legislative assembly constituency of Tamil Nadu will be held on June 26, the Election Commission (EC) of India today announced.

The seat was lying vacant following the death of sitting member S V Shanmugam on February 5.

The notification will be issued on June 1 while the last date of filing nominations was June 8. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 9.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 11.

The counting of votes will be taken up on June 29.
