Cricket dispute turns into casteist clash, 10 hurt

Varanasi, May 25 (UNI) At least 10 people, mostly women and children from the backward Rajbhar community, were hurt when youths belonging to upper caste allegedly attacked them over a dispute pertaining to cricket at a village in Lanka area here today.

The incident took place when youthS belonging to Bhumihar caste attacked members of the Rajbhar community in Tarapur village over a minor dispute over playing cricket on a piece of land falling in the part of village dominated by the Rajbhars, Station Officer (Lanka) Satish Sinha said.

Ten people, mostly women and children, were injured in the incident. A small hut housing equipment of the Rajbhars was also set afire.

While eight of the injured were administered primary treatment, two others were undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

A case has been registered against four youth.
