Chhattisgarh PUCL Chief arrested
Raipur, May 25 (UNI) Police have arrested Rajendra Sail, President of the Chhattisgarh unit of Peoples Union for Civil Liberties(PUCL), on the basis of a warrant issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in a contempt case.
City Superintendent of Police Lal Umed Singh told newsmen here that the arrest was effected yesterday and Sail would be produced before the High Court at Jabalpur.
Sail was convicted by the Supreme Court on an offence under the Contempt of Court Act 1971 after being found guilty of contempt of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for a period of one week.
The contempt of court petition against Mr Sail was filed by M P Bar Association, Jabalpur and others in 1998, police sources said.
