CBI to probe maid's murder in ex-DGP's home
Shillong, May 25: Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang said the CBI has agreed to probe the murder case of a domestic help in the residence of former Director General of Police (DGP) William Richmond Marbaniang.
On March 17, a 26-year-old maid was allegedly murdered inside the residential premises of Mr Marbaniang.
"We have received information from the CBI that they are ready to investigate the case," Mr Lapang told reporters here yesterday.
The incident was shrouded in controversy as it occurred in the high security compound of a police of DGP rank.
Moreover, the initial police statement claiming that the deceased had committed suicide raised more doubts, especially after the first autopsy report, which stated it as a case of murder.
Mr Lapang had assured that the government would make all efforts to nab the people involved in the incident adding that the ongoing CID inquiry into the murder case would continue.
Earlier, CID officials said they were near in establishing a list of suspects involved in the alleged murder.
