Panaji, May 25: The BJP today demanded that Vishwajit Rane, son of Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane be debarred from contesting from Valpoi as an independent candidate in the June 2 Goa Assembly elections, for resorting to electoral malpractices including luring of electorates through sops like wrist watches.

In a written complaint to Goa Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Negi, the BJP here today said the watches, bearing the photograph of Vishwajit along with his election symbol ''aeroplane'' were being freely distributed to the electorate by his followers on a large scale to lure the voters.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here, former state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said he had shown the CEO a watch as evidence, besides circulating the photostat copies of the watch with the printed material to the media.

Pleading for disqualification of Vishwajit with immediate effect, Mr Parrikar alleged that four thousand wrist watches had been distributed to the voters so far in violation of the code of conduct.
