Ban on Fashion TV lifted
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The ban on Fashion TV, which had given rise to protests from a section of the society against the ''moral policing'' by the Central Government, was lifted today, five days in advance.
''The Channel has regretted its error and assured that such error will not be repeated in future,'' the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said here.
The ban on the channel had been imposed for two months for telecasting programmes such as 'Midnight Hot' that were ''against good taste and decency and were likely to adversely affect public morals.'' The Ministry said the ban was revoked after the Channel assured that they had put in place a strict vigilance committee to oversee the programme content telecast on FTV.com India Channel so that there was no violation of Programme Code contained in Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
The ministry also assured that any programming considered inappropriate by the Ministry will be immediately removed, it said.
The revocation was subject to the condition that the suspended period of prohibition of six days shall be added to the penalty in case of any future violation of the Cable Act/Rules, said the Ministry.
