ATSUM reimposes economic blockade

Imphal, May 25 (UNI) The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) today reimposed indefinite economic blockade on the National Highways 39 and 53 in Manipur.

ATSUM Information Secretary Joseph said the talks held last night between Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and members of the ATSUM were not fruitful.

The ATSUM had called economic blockade from May 19 to 23 and a bandh on May 24 to demand introduction of Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for SC/ST) Bill 2007.

The ATSUM also demanded reservation for tribal students in the Manipur University.

''But the government's response was not favourable,'' Mr Joseph said.
