Ambani's projects under scanner of Mayawati govt
New Delhi, May 25: Within a day of recommending to the Centre to review the controversial SEZ of industrialist Anil Ambani, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said she would review all the decisions of the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government, including Reliance Energy's power project in Dadri.
''I will review all the decisions of the previous government one by one and, if found anti-people and irregular, they will be corrected,'' she said, replying to a specific query whether the gas-based power project of Anil Ambani would also come under the scanner of her government.
The chief minister also said her government did not want any confrontation with the Centre and would cooperate with it in implementation of various schemes and programmes.
Asserting that her government would not indulge in'political vendetta', she, however, made it clear that she would spare nobody found guilty of corruption or irregularity.
Ms Mawayati, who was in an interface with the national media for the first time after taking over the reins of Uttar Pradesh, said the committee constituted to review land acquisition for the SEZ, in its preliminary report, had found out that Reliance was given permission by ignoring some rules.
''The report has been forwarded to the Centre for necessary action,'' she added.
The chief minister reiterated that no farmers' land would be acquired for SEZ without seeking their consent. However, the government would help industrialists and entrepreneurs in acquiring small holdings falling with the SEZ limit.
Ms Mayawati, whose party rode to power by making deep inroads into upper caste votes, harped on her new slogan of ''Sarvajan Hitai, Sarvajan Sukhai'' but also made it clear that SCs, STs, OBCs, religious minorities and poor upper caste people would be given priority in developmental schemes. Underscoring that her government had been given the popular mandate to end the 'Jungle Raj', she said her administration would give top priority to establishing the rule of law by creating a development-oriented atmosphere, free from crime and fear.
''The people of the state have given a mandate against criminals and mafia and the state government would fulfill the faith shown by the electorate'' asserted Ms Mayawati, who was flanked by No. 2 in her government, Satish Mishra, Cabinet minister Sudhir Goel and Chief Secretary Shasank Shekhar Singh.
''All notorious criminals, no matter how influential they are, would be forced to bend before law. They would either be put behind the bars or forced to flee the state,'' she declared.
On the developmental issues, she said all pending vacancies in the reservation category would be filled within six months by launching a special drive.
Ms Mayawati said the focus areas of her administration would be expansion of health services, especially in rural areas, rural development, employment and quick disposal of people's problems.
Seven hospitals would be set up in the private sector to strengthen healthcare, she announced.
''With a view to making administration transparent and responsible, monitoring would be done at all levels,'' she said, adding that a surprise inspection would also be carried out to ensure quality in developmental projects.
On the issue of the installation of the statues in the state, the Chief Minister said it has been decided that no statue would be installed, either on public or private land, without the permission of the Chief Minister's Office.
She said this had become imperative to ensure that social disputes related to the installation of the statue did not vitiate the atmosphere.
