Amartya Sen to Chair committee on Nalanda University
Patna, May 25 (UNI) Noble laureate and internationally acclaimed economist Prof Amartya Sen would be Chairing a high power committee constituted to transform the proposed University of Nalanda into a centre of renaissance in Asia.
Addressing mediapersons here on his return from the 10-day visit to Australia and Singapore, Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said that other members of the committee would be Sugata Bose professor of Harvard University and also a close relative of the founder of Azad Hind Fauz Subhash Chandra Bose besides experts from China and Japan.
''The first meeting of the high power committee would be held in Singapore in mid-July while the second meeting is scheduled to be held in China and the third meeting in Japan before the fourth meeting which is slated to be held in Bihar,'' he added.
''After the series of all these meetings, action on ground-level would be initiated to actuate the dreams of making the proposed Nalanda University, a centre of excellence in education and renaissance as well,'' Mr Modi informed.
He said that Singapore and other Buddhist countries had expressed interest in the proposed Nalanda University and offered to extend all help in this regard.
Meanwhile, referring to the people of Bihar living in Australia and Singapore and their role in the development of the state, Mr Modi said branches of Bihar Foundation had been opened in both the countries to seek their cooperation in accelerating development of their land of birth.
