3000 Kashmiri youth seeks jobs in Army

Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Disregarding militant threats, about 3000 unemployed youth of the Kashmir valley took part in the four-day recruitment rally organised by the Army near here.

Out of these, 700 have been short-listed for the next phase of the recruitment drive for the Army, a defence spokesman said.

The rally, which concluded today, was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) at its Rangreth centre near here from May 22 in all categories for the candidates belonging to the Kashmir valley and the Ladakh province, he added.

The spokesman said the short-listed candidates would have to appear in a common entrance examination to be held on May 27.

Selected candidates will serve the Army in various wings under different categories such as soldier general duty, clerks, technical and tradesmen.

Several militant outfits, including Hizbul Mujahideen, had asked the youth from Kashmir to stay away from such rallies and also threatened to kill family members of those who join the Army or other para-military forces.
