Guwahati, May 24 (UNI) A teacher was gunned down at Tinsukia this morning by ULFA militants, one of whom was later mowed down by local villagers.

Tinsukia Additional Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha said Rohini Gogoi, the teacher of Kailashpur High School at Kailashpur under Pengree police station, was shot dead from point blank range in front of his school at 1000 hours.

When the rebels tried to flee after the incident, local villagers chased after them, caught one and beat him to death.

A pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militant who was identified as Dhadunia, Mr Sinha said.

In a similar incident, locals of Barpeta Road in lower Asom dared a grenade attack, which injured several of them, to successfully catch two ULFA extortionists and handed them over to police last week, he added.
