UP DGP to review old files of Mafiosi

Lucknow, May 24 (UNI)Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police(DGP) has called for files of several mafiosi including some elected legislators like Mukhtar Ansari to review action on these taken during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.

''We will review all the files to ensure if the final reports filed are faulty or they have benefited due to their political connections,'' DGP Girdhari Lal Sharma told newsmen here today.

He said if any wrong actions had been taken against certain persons, the officials responsible for this would be taken to task.

All the district police chiefs had been told to open fresh criminal files of mafia and musclemen in their respective districts, Mr Sharma said. ''No criminal element would be spared as part of the drive against the crime and criminals in the state,'' he said.

In a signification direction to some of the SPs in certain districts, the DGP had asked them to file FIRs in the incidents of indiscriminate firing by ruling party legislators while celebrating their victory in the polls. ''The state government has taken serious note of such incidents and action will be taken against erring politicians whichever party they belong to,''the DGP said.

Such incidents had taken place in several districts like Jhansi, Hardoi, Bareilly and had invoked strong reaction from the general public.
