United Biotech inks deal with Kedrion SpA

New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) United Biotech has signed in-licensing agreement with Kedrion SpA, a global bio pharmaceutical company for the development, production and distribution of plasma derivative.

Under the agreement, United Biotech will in-license -- human albumin, intravenous immunoglobulin, hepatitis immunoglobulin and anti-D immunoglobulin.

''This deal represents a major validation of our commercial potential and also marks a successful achievement of our company's objective to in-license through strategic partnerships,'' United Biotech Vice-President (Marketing) R K Dewan said today.

He said that the agreement is aligned with company's growth strategy planned for the next five-year, focused on optimising the value of United Biotech's current operations, building incremental value through strategic partnerships and commercial alliances.

Millions of lives are saved each year through blood transfusions and blood products.

However, in many countries people still die due to inadequate supply of blood and blood products. The number of vulnerable patients continue to rise, and there remains shortage of commercially available blood products that can be dosed safely.

''Kedrion products will fill the critical and growing void in this segment,'' Mr Dewan said.
