Udupi seer welcomes UN resolution on religion
Udupi, May 24 (UNI) Udupi Puttige Math seer Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji, also President of US-based World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP) today welcomed the UN resolution, providing special importance to the religious sphere with the support of 50 countries.
According to a press release issued by the mutt, Swamiji, delivering the key-note address at the conference of the Zonal office-bearers of the WCRP at Manila opined that the recent resolution would enable the UN to play a crucial role in maintaining world peace.
He felt that religion, which stood for endurance had gained wider acceptance through the resolution. He argued that the responsibility of 'Dharma' in promoting and preserving lasting progress had thus been confirmed.
Religious leaders of the Asia zone, sponsored by the Defence Ministry of South Korea discussed the constitution of a new council of the religious leaders of Asia zone and also a world body of religious leaders in support of UNO, the release added.
Representatives from 18 countries of the zone participated in the conference which was welcomed by Dr Thangam Kim, the President of the National Defence Council of South Korea, the release said.
Master Leewang of Singapore, Kabsugi Suzuki of Japan, and Mir Nawaz Khan Marawath of Pakistan, Dr Parvath Red Aron of Thailand and Philippines Bishop Antonio participated.
Meanwhile, the Indians in Manila who gathered there felicitated the Pontiff who stayed in the Hindu Mandir in Manila city, the release added.
