Ramdas Agarwal favours Bhairon Singh for presidency

Jaipur, May 24 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party national treasurer Ram Das Agarwal today said, he personally favours Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the post of President.

Talking to newspersons here the senior party leader said the name of Pranab Mukherjee is being propped up by the Marxists and the name of former UP Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari was doing the rounds in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's Cabinet, were motivated by narrow provincialism and did not emerge out of a national outlook.

He said the candidate to the post of the president should emerge from a national consensus and he favoured a selection rather an election on political lines to the post of presidency. He said in all standards Vice Pressident Bhairon Singh Shekhawat fits the bill.

''Even opposition parties cutting across party affiliations have lauded the way he conducted himself as vice president inside and outside the Hosue'' Agarwal said.

Asked if Mr Bhairon Singh will be the NDA candidate for presidency, he clarified it is his personal opinion and the NDA will disclose its candidate at the right time considering the emerging situation if ruling UPA failed to form a consensus. He said as the ruling coalitio, the UPA, has to take the inititive in evolving a consensus.
