Proposals invited for Indira Award for National Integration
New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) The Advisory Committee for the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration has invited proposals for the Award, given in recognition of outstanding contribution to the cause of national integration, for the year 2006.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for the Award, which was instituted in 1985 by the party in its centenary year.
The Award is for an individual or institution promoting national integration, understanding and fellowship amongst religious groups, communities and ethnic groups.
Carrying a citation and cash amount of Rs 1.51 lakh, the Award is given on the Martyrdom Day of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31.
The recipients of the Award so far include MS Subbulakshmi, Swami Rangnathanand, Aruna Asaf Ali, P N Haksar, Rajiv Gandhi(posthumous), Sardar Beant Singh (posthumous), Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Acharya Shri Tulsi, Shyam Benegal and Mahasweta Devi apart from several institutions promoting national integration.
The proposals have been invited latest by July 31 in the prescribed proforma to be obtained from its office located in Jawahar Bhawan on Dr Rajendra Prasad Road here, according to a release issued hee by the committee's Member Secretary Moti Lal Vora.
